Algeria 1994: childhood friends Lotfi (Lyes Salem) and S. cross the desert together, trying to hunt down the infamous terrorist Abou Leila. However, the two follow only a vague trail, and Lotfi’s urge to keep his friend away from the capital Algiers is revealed to have a hidden motive. S.’s mental state becomes more and more fragile the further they advance into no man’s land. Finally, a mysterious series of violent events uncovers the essence of S.’s condition and of their friendly alliance. This surreal road movie experiments with the boundaries of reality and delusion as haunting metaphors for the dark years of the Algerian civil war.
