Fiction, Director: Maryam Touzani, Morocco/France/Belgium 2019, 98 min., Arab. with En. ST
Abla (Luna Azabal), who lives in melancholic seclusion with her little daughter Warda, runs a small bakery in Casablanca. When the heavily pregnant Samia appears asking for accommodation for the night, the suspicious Abla hesitantly opens up her home, her business and finally her heart. The two women timidly get closer to one another, raising questions on motherhood and on a self-determined life without men. In her sensitive feature film debut, Touzani portrays two very different women in a society dominated by guilt and shame.
