Kamal (Adam Ali) has fled Iraq and made it as far as the Turkish-Bulgarian frontier. There, local mercenaries are ruthlessly hunting down migrants. Alone in the forest, Kamal has three days to escape. “Europa” is a gripping drama that uses the conventions of a survivalist thriller to explore the real-life experiences of those willing to risk everything to reach the “safety” of Europe. It premiered at 2021 Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film festival.
