In his epic film Adieu Bonaparte, Egyptian director Youssef Chahine places the French campaign in the background, as an Alexandrian family finds itself at the heart of the conflict between resisting the invaders and engaging with them in cultural, scientific and romantic ways.<\/p>\n<p>ALFILM presents Adieu Bonaparte on the centenary of the legendary Egyptian director Youssef Chahine. The film premiered in the official competition at Cannes Film Festival in 1985. We revisit Chahine\u2019s cinema today to contemplate the dilemma of freedom and liberation in the face of colonialism and its aftermath, a theme still very much relevant to this day.
