Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez composed a cinematic ode to her father, theater director Mohsen Sadoon Yasin, who spent most of his life in exile, glancing through the window of his London home these days, as he remembers the songs of his country, Iraq. It is the longing for a country that accompanies us to different continents and latitudes as we enter a world where the strands of lives are intersected by historical, social and political events such as the dictatorship in Iraq and the country’s invasion as well as the military coup in Chile. Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez interweaves personal and historical archives to create a loving portrait of her father and an elegy to a homeland to which they can never return.
