In a small village of the Italian Alps, men from elsewhere await the end of a long and exhausting judicial process, hoping to receive the government’s response to their asylum applications. Directors Yosr Gasmi and Mauro Mazzocchi chronicle the journey experienced by two of these men: Abdelrahman, a 23-year-old Libyan poet tormented by the traumas of war, the loss of his love, and the cold of the mountains; and Laly, a 42-year-old man burdened by the weight of endless waiting and the anxieties of an uncertain future. He spends his days filling the vast void of space and time by conversing with his children and wife over the phone. Through poetic frames unfolding in black and white, the film captures the day-to-day experiences of anguished lives suspended at the gates of Europe.
