Set at a major desert crossroads between Khartoum and Port Sudan, Mahatta maps a transient social world made of arrivals, pauses, transactions, and departures. People on foot, trucks, cars, animals, and goods move through the same space, revealing infrastructure as lived encounter. Mahdi’s observational approach builds an anthropology of transit in which waiting is as meaningful as movement. The station appears as a threshold where center and periphery, aspiration and precarity, briefly coexist before dispersing again. In its economy of means, the film offers a precise portrait of circulation as a condition of modern Sudanese life.
