Tales Of The Wounded Land
This unique documentary travels through the devastated landscapes of the South of Lebanon following months of Israeli aggression on its land and attacks on its people. Tales Of The Wounded Land offers unique access, different from media narratives, as Iraqi-French filmmaker Abbas Fahdel — most known for Homeland: Iraq Year Zero (2015) — has been based in Lebanon’s South since 2017.
He sets out to bear witness to the scale of loss and destruction, but also to signs of life emerging through the rubble.
The result is a stubborn film in its comprehensive approach to cataloguing every aspect of daily life, an ode to the Southerners’ resistance. Tales Of The Wounded Land screened at Locarno Film Festival in 2025 where Fahdel won the festival prize for best direction. (JH)
